SWAMP KAMP PROFILE

 Well, Swamp Kamp Festivo 2G.02 is a project aimed at targeting "Untapped Virgin Talent" especially the upcoming artists. The project is designed to suit all kinds of acts like mimes/ karaoke, poetry, original song pieces and dance competitions, poems, jokes and humor.
Basically, the crowd target is both of students and the non-students who are prepared to "BURN IT OUT" in a talent search.Swamp Kamp Festivo 2G. 02 was organized on the 27th January 01 at
Cine Afrique cinema and it was a "Test Drive" which became a big success. For this reason, we plan to carry it on as an ANNUAL event. What we have in stock this year is MAGIC! Only God knows.

WHAT IS THE SWAMP KAMP?
Swamp is simply a school social gathering aimed at creating harmony and awareness amongst holidaymakers through birth of new ideas, talent, and much more. It can be termed EDU-TAINMENT.

WHAT IS IT FOR?
Well the Swamp Kamp is basically a foundation stone aimed at keeping music in the underground alive, most especially the "UNSCRATCHED" music and talent.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS?
This is a project that we established a year ago. Its goals have been clearly seen by the positive response of the youth who have been behind us in all the events we have organized. Its goals have brought to the limelight some of the untapped talent and now more confidence comes in as education goes in with co-curricular activities like sport, music and drama. Professionals have had themselves employed through their own talents for instance journalists and engineers due to the awareness that has been passed onto them. The same should happen for musicians

WHO HAVE WE WORKED WITH?
We have combined efforts with the Blood brothers to make the whole project have significant recognition. Big-ups to individuals such as Data Marshals, Alex Gluma, Akena Shilla, Ak Boyzo, Bigo Paul, Boogie monster, WYIT, Omong Moses, The Beloved Crew and well wishers who have worked tooth and nail to see that all goes well for "Swamp Kamp" but much thanks to the Almighty God for making everything right.

Firstly, no one can succeed in anything solely so special thanks to companies that have been supporting Swamp Kamp until now and they are: Sanyu fm, Pepsi Cola, The Bood Brothers Productions, Marie Stopes International who are the distributors of Life Guard condoms, Club Silk Uganda who have provided both moral and material support for the smooth running of the Swamp Kamp.

SWAMP KAMPIN'

Just in case you didn't know the one of the oldest hip-hop groups in Uganda, Debwaz has gone Swamp Kamping (their term for going underground or low key) after completing a national tour during the festive season of Christmas and New Year. According to Isaak aka Boyzo, the tour "was satisfactory." He points out however that indigenous hip-hop productions still has along way to go in terms of recognition by the people. The reason for the Kamp is a musical project that is underway however no details are available to the public as yet.

Debwaz now has joined up with the Blood Brothers to form Debwaz en Bradaz. Together they have formed the Swamp Kamp, a combination of different up coming artists soon springing out onto the main stream. This idea was born after several years of observing new artists getting continually frustrated in the almost non-existent industry.

"Young artists come rushing expecting instant stardom only to be taken advantage of by dubious promoters or discouraged by sky high recording rates. What we are trying to do is to provide some kind of support base by bringing together different artists of different styles so as they can lean on one another in different resourceful aspects, moral support, financial, physical base, etc. Unity is strength and there is strength in numbers. That's what local artists have to understand. Without unity there are going to be a lot of obstacles that they won't be able to tackle alone as individuals."

BIOGRAPHY:

Debwaz was founded by Shiila under the name BOYZ WIT ATTITUDE and was later changed to DEBWAZ on 26th Nov 1996. All the ups and downs that the group went through gave rise to the current established members like Ak Boyzo, Ivy IT, E.Z and Boogie Monster.

Basically, the group is an R'n'B/Hip-hop group that has been registered with a number of successful nation-wide promotional tours and secondary school tours in the Edutainment sector.

A new phase of Debwaz began in August 2000 as DEBWAZ EN BRADAZ, a combination of Debwaz and the famous Ugandan raggae group THE BLOOD BROTHERS. This combination brought about the creation of the SWAMP KAMP and the Swamp Kamp fan club, which has managed to grab a surprisingly large following in the country.

What they do:

Marketing, promotions, research, event organisation, advertising as well as other youth projects.

Credits:
- Organised the annual Swamp Kamp festival that was launched in January of 2000 in a bit to uplift Uganda's unknown musical artists.
- Recorded and promoted radio shows such as the ever blazing Saturday Nite Fever on 88.2 Sanyu fm 2000 hosted by the mighty Big Ben.
