Gentle king

Standing at 5.2 feet tall Afro-beat dancehall artist comes through as a talkative musician who after slight interrogation sounds as assiduous as the word itself. If it was the Big Brother Africa show, then he’s the type of personality who could easily get on easily with the rest.  The glow in his iris speaks volumes.  As he later admits you can with detailed attention tell he’s been through the mud on his way to stardom.

His music describes the name he chose for his career. It’s gently produced to create amiable contact with your ear. Ladies and Gents Meet Gentle King. If producing hit songs at one of Uganda’s hit making studios Fenon records is not large in itself on the Ugandan then I guess I wonder what is!

Gentle’s Afro-Dancehall style has already endeared him to fans and currently minimal radio rotation. His songs like Digida, Damali, Fort (Omuwala omutooro),Kawala Kalungi and Sheti boast of assiduous effort, sophisticated sound and thunderous groovy beats.
“I like Digida the most” he states for the simple reason that it speaks about daily life and the need to dance one in a while gentle continues.

Kawala Kalungi already has a Twisted image/Deddac video production that has been rotating on the regional eastafrica television since 2004. Not strange at all is the fact that Gentle started his career in the school drama club where he’d perform at different school shows.  While at progressive secondary school Bweyogerere he would find time off to search for groovy Jamaican dancehall beats from artists like shaggy and his favorite Mr. Vegas on whose background he would rap during school festivals.  He later pushed this feat further by frequenting spots such as club silk, DV8 AND Sabrina pub karaoke shows to perfect his skills and in the process building a fan base.

Gentle would later start writing his own songs because he was starting to get music recording ideas. Many deliberations later an opportunity presents itself.  He receives a phone call and the voice on the other side tells him about a talent search show.  The Capital/coca-cola real star talent search.  He takes interest and is registered for the search show which was to have a single winner fly down to South Africa to record an album courtesy of coca-cola and capital FM. This chance got him voice training with female artist Juliana Kanyomozi, Producer Steve Jean and others. Its during this period that he also met with the show winner Kefa Mwesigwa (R.I.P) with whom he was to record a song before he passed on.

King has always had respect for Jamaican Dancehall artist Mr. Vegas and Peter Miles on the Ugandan scene.” Man those two guys are deadly” he emphasizes as he reaches out to Dj/Music distributor Viboyo to pass me his compact disc.  Iam not giving him any breathing space so I keep my eyes glued to his with recorder in hand.  He wryly keeps smiling.
His efforts have shyly paid off because in the meantime he’s the proud owner of a three bedroom house in Kirinya-Bweyogere at the Akright housing Projects courtesy of Akright housing managing drector Anatoli Kamugisha who offered him the house in a swap deal? The deal?Gentle had to compose a song about the Akright housing projects but this would be on condition that the song amuses the boss.Days later when he presented mr.Kamugisha with an acapella demo he was impressed and told him to go ahead and record it at Fenon records.  “I had earlier on told him that some artists were going through hard times paying rent when he gave me this go ahead it was totally unbelievable but I believe he believed it what I could do”he gently speaks. This process started when mr.Anatoli spotted Gentle performing at Ragga Dee’s album launch at Hotel Africana.”After the show he called me on the side gave me his contacts and as they say the rest is history.
