Getrude Mukyeshyangoma

Meet Getrude Mukyasha Ngama, a Rwandese Gospel musician born in June 1964. She has been singing since 1984.

She writes most of her songs most of which are for praise and worship. She is inspired by the present situations, those she has passed through in her life, what God has done for her, conditions she found people going through in Rwanda and praising the Lord. Gertrude got saved in 1994 and has been singing since her childhood.

She began singing in Church Choirs where she led praise and worship at the Full Gospel Church and Crusades in Masaka. Then, she was in a group called the Gospel Mission For all mankind (GOSSIMA). This group went around preaching in different sub-units but she sang in a unit called Enjoy Jesus’ Life Band.

Gertrude later on came to Kampala and joined The Sound of Power at Rubaga Miracle Centre. With them, she performed various acts and did some singing.

In 1994, She went to Rwanda and started a career singing in there. She sang in Rwandese and started releasing her music on tapes. In 1997, She launched a tape “Omwami Yesu Ali ku nggoma” meaning Jesus is King or Leader. This launch did well in Rwanda since it was the first of it's kind there. The People were broken hearted due to the effects of the Genocide so the music reached their hearts very fast because it brought comfort.

In 1999, She released her second album, “Mwami Yesu Nyiringabo – Mukama Yesu Omwegye” but it did not hit as expected due to financial problems. Another album “kadiyimbasi – Katutandereze Mukama" meaning "Lets Praise the Lord ” is due to be released.

She records and produces her songs at Kasajja and sons.

Gertrude’s best musician is Fiona Mukasa because her music is good and it has actually touched many people.

Her advice to the upcoming Gospel musicians is to be patient - problems are many, get a big person to guide you and don’t be proud. Get near people who are already in the business like the preachers and always remember to pray
