Having left Obsessions four years ago and forming HB Toxic in March 2008, Helen and Brenda are signed to Ali Allibhai’s Talent 256.
Branded as Uganda’s Destiny’s Child, the duo has gone ahead to top charts with tracks like “All I Need”, “Going Out Tonight” among others.
However, I caught up with the ever charming girls and they told me about their past, anticipation and what the future holds as HB Toxic.
Who is Helen?
Daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Lukomi, 22 year old Helen studied from Shimon Primary school, Lubiri and Aga Khan secondary school before graduating in International Business at MUBS University.
And Brenda?
Brenda studied from Kajjansi, Mengo, Progressive and Entebbe SS before joining Obsessions in 2001 as a dancer.

Hellen
Why did you girls quit Obsessions?
Helen: I was tired of exploitation and the other reason was to get a well paying job.
Brenda: My reason for quitting the group was to widen my creativity by being more responsible. I also wanted to be my own boss.
What’s your type of music and why that type?
We are kind of versatile because we are still discovering ourselves.
We have no limits but so far we’ve done Afro beat, Pop, R&B and Zouk.
We understand Brenda owns “Bambi Fashions”, what is Helen involved in besides music?
Helen is an actress in several movies like “Yogera”, a model, TV presenter and a business woman but besides all that, she’s the financial controller at “Bambi Fashions”.
How many songs are under HB Toxic?
Brenda: we have 15 songs so far, namely: “All I Need”, “Komawo”, “Going Out Tonight”, “Nkwagala Nyo”, “Nku Feelinga”, among others.
What role is Talent 256 playing in your music career?
Talent 256 does everything in our career. Starting with management, promotions, bookings, finance our studio and video works, costumes and so on.

Brenda
Any challenges so far in the music industry?
Brenda: The breakthrough isn’t simple at all and besides that we have a lot of work that needs to be done by ourselves. For example, I have to run Bambi Fashions while concentrating on HB Toxic at the same time.
Helen: We as well have problems convincing the fans our existence in the music industry because many believe we are spoon-fed by our manager Aly.
Who is your inspiration in the music industry?
Helen: Because of the support I got from my family, I regard them as my inspiration. They are one of the reasons behind who Helen is today.
Brenda: Career wise, it’s Jennifer Lopez because she’s hardworking in everything she does. But Lillian’s vocal ability moves me a lot.
What’s with the simple personality?
That dates back to the way we were brought up, but the other reason for our simple personality is that we hate violence and that’s basically why we beef each other and no one else.
So what’s next for HB Toxic?
Besides more studio work and going international, we intend to make a mark in the music industry and more trips abroad.
Any last words to all your fans?
We are so grateful for the awesome support you’ve given us through the years and more is still coming from HB Toxic. Just watch the space.
