1 on 1 with Hameem Hassan by Isaac Ssejjombwe
Born 26 years ago, Hameem Hassan is the 2nd born of six children and attended Uganda Martyrs primary school, Buziga Islamic Theological institute, Kyambogo University and is a graduate in Journalism, Mass communication at UMCAT in Kampala.
Hameem’s musical dream started since childhood and he got an opportunity in 2004 with three songs that he featured in alongside other artists but decided to give music a break so as to concentrate on education but embarked on his music career last year.
With his 8 track album that has songs like Party zone, Kampala night mare, Lero, ki ondaza, antabula among others, Hameem who refers to his style as Afro hip-hop which many identify as Luga Flow has Geo4rey of Truevine studios and Markville of Blueprints to thank, for both audio and video production respectively.
Lack of ample reception from the fans is his greatest challenge but believes consistence will help him win support from entertainment fans.
Hameem who is also a client’s manager at graphic consult Ltd got the inspiration from the Dad who worked as a Dj back then because he always used to escort him to several functions and the reception he was getting aggravated the boy to have a dream of one day making it big not in the Dj’s department but in the music world.
Talent, ambition, aggressiveness and hard work is the way forward to success according to Hameem.” Because of the talent I have, I’m able to compose my own songs to basically deliver what I feel is of essence to the fans” the 26 year old said. He also added that music is the best way to relate and communicate to the people thus making the world a better place.
Domestic violence, love issues and day to day life are the major aspects he delivers in his songs and he considers hip hop as the only ay to deliver the message as well as changing people’s beliefs about hip hop is his expectation because many have a negative aspect about the category.
The burgeoning artist has a vision of owning a record label as well as topping the hip hop category in Africa is Hameem’s vision but a few collaborations with Grace Nakimera and Desire Luzinda would be okay because he works at creating unity among musicians in Uganda

“Solobeza” by Hameem by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256-078-2-233273)
Barely three years doing music as a career, Hameem Hassan has yet again released another single off his first album.
“Solobeza” is the title name of this particular song that is steadily getting appraisal from the music fans.
Having a blend of hip hop, Solobeza is a kind of song that gives praises to a woman just like some of his other songs.
Jeff like his other hits is the main producer of this particular song which was produced at Truevine studios.
In one of the verses, Hammem explains how he gets electrified when he sets his eyes on this woman.
He also goes ahead to compare the girls looks to Ganja (leaves) and all other lines that guys throw out to women.
“Solobeza” is a love and friendly tune with massive lyrics that capture one’s attention on its first hearing which shows that beyond reasonable doubt, the “Ndilwazi” singer will have the hip hop category over his shoulders any time soon.
