Jonty
Jonty, one of Uganda's underground Hip-hop artists has just dropped another one titled 'I got love'. On this, his second release, he describes his love for a girl and all the things he'd do for her, threatening to be as lyrical as LL Cool J, huh... He then weaves in and out with a chorus which is mainly in Swahili in typical Bong Flava style.
His first release was by Doug B and this new one is produced by MMc at the Little Red studios in Kyambogo. In short, he has worked with Uganda's prime Hip-hop producers
The Underground Hip-hop movement, nurtured by the Uganda Hip-hop Foundation is present and growing where you cant see it, what are you going to do when it explodes in your faces.
You know, the best thing about musicuganda is that you see the artist, read his story and listen to demos or full mp3s of his music.
Below is his brief profile and info about his previous release
Through Doug B's boards of production comes another upcoming Hip-hop rap act. Jonty can’t remember exactly when he started rapping but his mom said he started before he even spoke meaning it came naturally. He has wanted to be a rapper since he was a kid.
Jonty's debut track 'Party' is one of those laid back rap joints with verses in Kiswahili, Lugnda and English just to show what kind of diversity he has. Doug hasn't produced anything like this before and it is reminiscent of the hit rap music of the mid nineties.
His idols are basically Nas and Jay-Z. The first mimes he did were “Hate Me Now” by Nas and “Anything” by Jay-Z. He did them so perfectly that all his friends told him that he was destined to be a rap star.
it all began with his parents. They always encouraged him to hang in there and never quit and they were proud of his talent as a rapper. Another person was his brother who also happens to be a rapper. His brother taught him how to rap, but honestly he doesn’t know he is a rapper and he doesn’t think he will ever realize it.
His view about Hip-hop Music in Uganda is that it is basically rising at a vary high speed and soon Ugandan Music will be revolutionalised, with the help of the Managing Director Music Uganda, P-TECH. Unfortunately, our own Ugandan FM Stations are kind of failing to recognize Hip-hop music.
He started recording his first single at Alpha – 1 studios with Doug B as his producer. He is planning on releasing a video for the song.
He continues to tell us about his future plans; since the (Hip-hop) movement has already started at Sabrina’s Pub, with the theme “Hip-Hop Nite” every Wednesday night, the Hip-hop community hopes to gain much from it. They want to bring out a good picture of Hip-hop music in Uganda. All we have to say to the East African people and the World wide is to get ready for the hip-hop revolution.
He also plans on doing another song soon and he believes it will hit so all you Hip-hop fans keep your ears wide open, so he is taking his time.
He is still looking for a promo and if he gets one, he will drop as many rhymes as possible because he is already flooding, so all you East African people “Buckle up” and get ready.

Jonty on the move by “Tha Puzzle”
When you mention the name Jonty perhaps you’ll recall the dude as one of Uganda’s hip-hop pioneers that used to grace a couple of hip-hop shows in the mid-nineties toward the 2000’s. Well Jonty has moved on because of Uganda’s deviating market forces to become a producer as well as recording artist with Kiswahili songs as well as Dancehall tracks to his name. He’s gone through his trials and tribulations like recently he broke up with long time co-host and recording partner Pure Tango over business related differences but that hasn’t hindered the aggressive dude from moving on.
