Kabogoza - Nsasula Nkubanja

He is known as ‘Kabogoza’ on the Capital Morning Crew show but his real name is Patrick Ndaula. ‘The Morning Crew’ is one of the most prominent and is indeed the eldest morning show in the FM radio business by virtue of the fact that Capital FM is the ‘big brother’ of all the other stations having hit the airwaves in 1993.

Christine Mawadri, who had been on that show since it’s inception unfortunately left Capital FM for Monitor FM. The show still exists though with the tireless efforts of Kabogoza and others. He also features on the Hot 20 countdown with DJ Ronnie. You can read about Kampala radio presenter movements here

You may not know much about him and had probably never seen his image ‘till today but he has been at Capital FM since 2001. The name ‘Kabogoza Omusirise’ is translated ‘Kabogoza the quiet one’, which indeed he is. And that is not all about this soft-spoken 20-year-old lad. He also happens to be a musician and a director of a group called ‘Strikers Crew’. We’ll get more info about the crew and shall let you know when we do.

This year has seen Patrick or rather ‘Kabogoza’ release his first single titled ‘Nsasula Nkubanja’ which is loosely translated ‘you owe me, please pay me back’ This is a song which he says is about ‘Detoothers’. For those of you new to this urban Kampala slung, a ‘detoother’ is a gold digger or rather a girl that persistently takes money from a man and pretending to be madly in love and yet doesn’t give any affection in return.

This song is inspired by actual events that happen in day-to-day life and Kabogoza felt it best to portray his thoughts about the whole issue in this, his maiden track. He has a couple of recordings in the pipeline and when he through with studio, we shall let you know.

But how did Kabogoza get to Capital FM, one of Uganda’s hardest radio stations to penetrate? Here is the secret; Allan ‘the cantankerous one’ Mugisha had something to do with it. Cantankerous met Kabagoza at Mpererwe along Kampala road and they instantly became best friends.

As Allan was also into standup comedy, he instantly reckoned that Kabogoza had enough skill to land him a job at Capital FM and his instincts were indeed proven right. Like they say ‘takes one to catch one’. You cannot tell he is so good at his comedy act by merely looking at him but sit back, relax and get to know him and you’ll go absolutely bananas.

Life hasn’t been a smooth road though. He dropped out of school at S3 level for reasons he chose not to specify. He was born and raised in Luweero where he left in 2000 to come to Kampala to seek greener pastures. When he got to the city, he joined a group called Nanda Dramactors as a comedian. It was soon after this that he met Cantankerous. Guess you know the rest of the story. The rest is history.

If you need to see Kabogoza, he spends most of his time at Capital FM. Just one tip – Don’t go looking for Patrick Ndaula ‘cause you’ll end up wasting more time trying to find him, ‘Kabogoza’ shall do the trick. Plans are underway to record his radio comedy acts and we shall have them availed on our listen page.
