The phenomenal Kid Fox launch.
Glitzy is the one word to summarize the type of performance recording artist Kid fox put up at the Kyadondo rugby grounds on Saturday (12th December). The speculation around town the whole day before the show had been whether crowds would turn up for the concert because it had rained cats and Ddgs in the afternoon and therefore many thought the feeling of a wet venue would perhaps affect the attendance. However, as you would later expect it did shine and before you knew it the show ground was all ready for one of the most anticipated launches of the year.
Since in real life Kid Fox seems to take things reservedly in stride many really wanted to see what he’d pull off. Truly speaking Kid Fox’s Kyadondo launch was one of the most organized launches this year. The crowds might not have been as massive as say at the Akon show but the ones that showed up evidently showed that they were loyal fans who’d all along been waiting for this day to happen. By 9.00pm the show was already on the road with Ras B Ssali working round the clock to make sure the sound and lighting system was on point and indeed it didn’t disappoint the microphones were clear enough to let out sound that went to far places. Master of ceremonies seasoned radio presenter Omulangira Ndaula kept the “dressed to kill” crowd giggling most of the night with his wacky remarks that most of the time bend toward love relationships (for some reason many a Ugandan laugh hard at relationship jokes). What made his dance antics more comic was the fact that he was dressed like a bonafide city tycoon which played opposite for his role of the night.
Straight forward to the show, curtain raising performances from artists such as Denzo, Mponye Lee, Ak -47,Exodus, Benon & Vamposs, Michael Ross and Vboyo excited the crowd because of the general vigor used as they performed. One of the night’s highlights was when Jose Chameleon who’s still being pushed in a wheel chair was introduced to the crowd. Dressed in matching black denims a black t-shirt and matching cap he greeted the crowd much to the crowd’s applause. Many were seen rushing to the stage to take pictures of the Aast African star. He added pomp to the whole do when he confessed to having been a kid Fox fan since day one and was here to support him. He did three songs including Kuba Bulungi and Ba Yuda before he introduced some of his Leone Government members to the crowd.

Jose Chameleone
At 11.00 o’clock it what time for our host to step on stage. Before his performance a team of flamboyant break dancers stepped on stage and unleashed intricate dance moves that evidently showed they had been training real hard for this performance, they made magical moves that later introduced Kid fox to the stage. For a launch Fox made his fashion statement when he showed up dressed in a heavenly white suit black shirt and matching white tie, a sight that could easily catch even the most absent minded attendee. At first Fox did not waste much time he went straight into performing his first track at the show. As always when Kid Fox if performing it’s seldom like he’s unleashing the world’s story book. He preached his messages of love and intrigue as the crowd kept on backing him up on some of the songs he could. He took us through some of his chart bursting tracks such as Love is a good feeling, Abatuuze, Buusu, Kapere, Zinunula and many others.
When it came to charting with the crowd he was not a disappointment he slid on wacky comments like he was starting next year changing his brand from Kid Fox to King Fox since he’d clearly proved over the years that he’s a musical king. He also proved that he’s not a mediocre artist by performing some of his tracks backed up with a live band and not the usual compact disc miming done by many artists at their launches. This truly showed his maturity as well as well preparedness for the show. One could clearly see that he’d prepared for his own launch for quite a while.
Another exciting moment was when Kid fox did a song about his musical history taking the crowd through the times he started his career in 1992 aged fifteen and the people he kept on meeting the years that followed nineteen ninety two, he mentioned names such as Menton Summer, Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleon, Kuklee, Compius, Gentle, Crystal Fabulous, Peter Miles e.t.c. just for the crowd to understand where he was coming from in case some thought he was a yester year type of artist, which was unique in itself. This time round it was all about music and no compact disc auctioning or anything near that. Amazingly the crowd could recite almost all his songs with ease just like he’s recorded them with them perhaps it was just to prove that loyalty had kept them on the show it well past the midnight hour. Like the patriot Fox performed amidst two Ugandan flags being waved by two of his back up vocalists Bac sama and Denzo who together with Fox kept on jump up high in intervals just to lend the show some extra energy.

Maddox Sematimba
After an hour of energetic performance Kid fox’ main guest on the show Sweden based Maddox Sematimba was introduced to the show. He in a reluctant mood took on the guitar then took his back up band through the drills of finding the right keys to the tracks he was going to perform. He did reggae music that kept people like Hope Mukasa (himself a guitar freak) mesmerized through the night. He then with his guitar genius took the crowd through his big tracks like Namagembe and Nakatudde which he always ended with five minutes of sheer musical instrumentation. He kept on asking the crowd to back him up on the songs they knew which they did with much ease.
Club beer as one of the show sponsors ensured that club was abundant on the house and indeed those that seek its services didn’t get disappointed. They imbibed it like club was leaving the African market for budaphest the next morning. The result: Walalalal Wololololo, need I mention the usual banter from high guys? One guy was heard shouting; we want Michael Jackson! What else if it wasn’t a beer working him?(he’d been one of the calmest attendees three hours before).Credit should be given to the lighting engineer Ras B Ssali who gave the international stage feel.
Thanks to the way he rationed his different color lights to the performing artists on stage. In attendance were Club Beer Officials, UTL’s Eddie Mugulusi, Capital FM’s presenters who included Ronnie “The hitman”, programme director Joel Isabirye, Menton Kronno with his new corporate image kept on nodding in appreciation and hordes of fans from musical circles and the corporacy.
The show ended way past one o’clock, but at the end of it all Kid fox had proved that when it comes to live performances, he’s an icon at story telling and entertaining stage performer. Look need to look for his album because you’ll need it.
