The Little Red Studio
.
Ladies
and Gents, allow me to introduce to you the Littlered studio. It
is situated at the Kyambogo housing estate near Kyambogo
University. Countless voices have gone through the various
channels and the digital processors at Littlered and we feel you
should know a little more about the place.
When the studio was first set up, it was located at Kabalagala
on Ggaba road and was initially run by Arthur Kedi. Under Kedi’s
stewardship, masterpieces like Anekutte by Bella and Kedi’s
girlfriend Yvette were produced. Kedi is famous for producing
Tempra Omona’s ‘Nen Awene’ track which is still a big hit in
northern Uganda today a couple of years after it was produced.
Arthur Kedi later moved on to No End records briefly after which
it is said he relocated to Dares Salaam. Since then, Moses ‘MMc’
Sabiiti has been in charge of the set up.
He had initial experience from the production work he did at his
own Vokal Justice studio, which he moved from Kololo to Kyambogo.
He started of producing a group called ‘Chain Thought Reaxion’
in which he was a member. He is an ardent lover of Hip-hop music
and that’s the kind of music he made and produced first. The
setup of the Littlered studio was done by a man that has set up
the most studios in Uganda and that is, the most experienced.
This is non other than Steve Jean
Members of the group are all involved in different sectors of
the entertainment business; P-Tech set up this website (www.musicuganda.com),
Buuba is doing video production and animation at Buubio Works,
which is a branch of the Littlered studio and Seanice is the
leading radio show host in the country at the moment.
Vokal Justice Littlered all started
off with Hip-hop and diversity has now set in. MMc is however
very known in the Hip-hop circles together with others like Dawu,
Doug B and Lumix who are the best Hip-hop producers that Uganda
has seen to date.
The Hip-hop and R&B artists and groups that MMc and Littlered
have produced include Klear Kut, Krukid, MSB & Young Nick, Saint
CA, P-Tech, Smokie & Da Benjaminz, Niky Nola, Lyrical G &
Krayzie Native of Bataka Underground, Urban thugs, GL, Word
Storm and dozens more.
I know y’all are wondering why you haven’t heard of many of
these but the answer is simple. There’s a very big movement of
underground music within Kampala that has been ignored by the
mainstream and organizations like PAM awards, but that cant be
for too long because the movement is going strong. Some day,
you’ll wake up to hear a music revolution in Uganda and things
may never be the same again, like the way it happened when the
Bongo Flavas came through in a big way. |
