Med D

Med D a.k.a Kasumba Mohammed Makaf born June 2 nd 1979. He sings Hip-hop, Afro pop and Reggae.

Med D had his education at North Road Primary School in Mbale, Mbale Secondary school and Kazo Hill College School in Kampala . He could not continue with education due to financial difficulties.

Med D started listening to music right from primary 3. He was inspired by Jimmy Katumba and songs from South Africa , Jamaica , UK and USA . Though he never involved himself in the School choir, he used to watch music videos and listen to Karaoke tapes

In 2000, a gentleman by the name of Mwesigwa inspired him to begin karaoke. Med D and Mwesigwa used to stay together. They went together to a few clubs and he (Mwesigwa) was very appauled which inspired Med D too. In 2003, together with some two friends of his, he started going out to perform karaoke where he used to serve as a back-up singer singing only choruses. His first performance was at Sabrina's.

After some time he had some experience and could therefore perform alone on stage and basically do his own thing i.e. writing his own songs. In 2004, he appeared in stage for the first time alone at Chics club located in Kawempe. He then began to make appearances in different clubs in Kawempe i.e. Miami Club, Lions Club, Chez Johnson and Malaba Club.

In 2005, early January he was introduced to a gentleman by the names of Johnny, who helped him record this single “Time to know me”. A gentleman by the names of Ronny helped him out with the video

Apart from singing, Med D also designs clothes. Most of the clothes he wore in the video of “Time to know me” were made by him with a little help from his brother Latif who has taught him how to design. Latif is currently lecturing Fashion and design at Tina School of a Fashion located in Kasanga.

“Time to know me” is Med D`s first single. The song was produced at Bulfrog records. The video was edited and produced at Ropion pictures in Kyebando. “Time to know me” was done in hiphop style using Afro beat. The message behind the single is to basically boost confidence. Its main aim is to let people out there know that one should be proud of what they are doing then others appreciate what he does.

He has performed in various places like Sabrina`s Pub and D.V.8. He also plans to stage a music and fashion show. The details will be communicated to you as time goes on.
