1 on 1 with Mun*g

Mun*G has been in the rap game for some time, to many he came to be known by many after he released “Oh my Goodness”. His latest “Kyaba Too God” has earned him a lot of recognition from the corporate world earning him deals in major campaigns like the recent “Kyaba too Good Airtel Campaign.”  Mun*G has become a household name in the entertainment industry and clearly there is no turning back. He would like to refer to himself as a musician and a comedian which is clearly seen in his lyrical content.

Who is MUN*G?

MUN*G is a rap artist under the label BABOON FOREST ENTERMAINMENT. He goes by real names MUNGI EMMANUEL MATOVU and loves hip hop music. He has just completed his   Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at MUK and lastly.

Who was MUN*G before he joined the music industry?
He is still the same old guy he used to be before joining the music industry; l mean he is down to earth, focused, self-believer, and of course he believes in the man upstairs GOD to be the ruler of both heaven and earth so not much has really changed about MUN*G besides the fact that boarding a boda boda now is a big deal to the people out there.

When did you start your music?
I began my music in December 2008 but l went professional in January 2010 after signing my first contract with the label BABOON FOREST ENTERTAINMENT.

Who inspired you to join the music industry?
The likes of Kanye West, Eminem, Jay-Z, Ludacris internationally, and locally Lyrical G inspired me a lot while still in school... but of course for a career I was inspired by GNL Zamba after realizing it is possible for a person to feed off hip hop alone in Uganda.

What challenges did you face as an upcoming musician?
NO am not an upcoming artist in hip hop, you’re EITHER here or NOT here... so I guess I am HERE but for starters of course it is really hard to get your song played on air by both radio and TV and then the recording studios and shooting of the videos are so expensive. And lastly people don't what to give the ear when you are starting out and very many other challenges but I personally decided to join the industry expecting these challenges and so they didn't hit me direct in the face if u know what am saying.

What scarifies have you made to make it big into the industry?
Lots of sacrifices; l sacrificed the little money l had to record the first songs and also bending low for some people in the industry because you can't do nothing without them to mention but a few.

What inspires you when your writing your music ?
Daily life situations,  my life and other people's lives.

Tell us more about your music?
More about my music hmmm... humorous lyrics directed to both the literates and illiterates more so to the youths. I have some really inspiring and conscious songs coming up on the album. The album is coming up pretty soon..

What artist's do you what to work with both locally and internationally if you had a chance?
I would do anything to work with Kanye West, Ludacris and locally anyone as long as I love and feel their music…no beef..

What's your take on beef in the music sector?

Beef is not bad l mean it’s okay for the industry as long as it is not violent… and for hip hop it is actually a part of the game though it jeopardizes some people's careers so you have to be really bright if your engaging your career in beef.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Next five years... being a big name in AFRICA

Any last words to your fans?
Thanks a lot all my fans for the support you guys have shown me and I rarely say this but I  promise I am never going to disappoint you plus the album is coming out, please save a few dimes and buy this album because it is CRAZY then don't forget the album concert at the end of the year yours truly MUN*G... peace out...

Mun G Cancels Launch by Felix Eupal

Emmanuel Matovu aka Mun G might have been over the moon with his Kyaba Too Much hit taking him places overnight. But the Baboon Forest member is at the moment not a happy man after he had to cancel his much anticipated Gira Tugire concert. Mun G had targeted secondary school leavers and scheduled his concert for December 2, but failed to coordinate the show, especially with his boss GNL Zamba out of the country.

Uganda: Mun*G Survives Flop By a Whisker

HERE was fear that Mun*G's Namalayo concert, which took place last Friday at Kati Kati, would end up in the gutter, just like the recently flopped shows. After all, by 8:00pm, the time the concert was to start, only media and organisers were the common sight at the venue, outnumbering those who had paid. Backstage, even the curtain raisers feared it would flop. At about 9:00pm, emcee Kats, who worked alongside The Hypeman, had to get onto stage to kick-start the show to prevent the few already in from leaving. And his first joke was, "the show is to go on for the two of you around."But then, bit by bit, the crowd kept swelling up, ultimately turning up a considerable crowd and erasing egg off the face of Mun*G, real name Emmanuel Mungi Matovu. Otherwise, it would have been embarrassing for the chap's maiden concert since he started singing four years back, had fallen flat on its face. The show kicked off with opening acts from a number of up-coming rappers, some of whom may never shine
