Review - Lyrical G “Narudi”

By Tha Mith

When lyrical G’s first album. “LIVE FROM EAST AFRICA” dropped; he was going through the loss of his mother who had supported his career.  The album  which had hits like “Steal the Gal” and the “East Africa Party”, still managed to win him fans from Uganda and East Africa as a whole.

Now he’s back with his second album titled “Narudi” and it’s safe to say he’s back.  The album is a throwback too early. “Lyrical G” where you are going to get punch line after punch line and a lot of charisma.

Let me take you through the album one track at a time.

Opening

Free style Introduction; On this track he claims he’s “One of the best to spit – From the West to the East”  over a track produced by MNM from GK Productions, he raps: “Who still the cat – designed to spit raps – so fine make a N*****  wan’ press Rewind  It’s that N***** LG.  Superior MC. From N**T.  Still rapping UTC…”  And once that is done, you have to agree with his earlier claim; he is one of the best to spit from the West to The East.

Who dat boy;  here he switches up his flow and delivery, which enables him to          come at your best MC with line like, “Look at the top ten spots - , I am ahead of the charts –“  He also lets you know his current state of mind when he raps.  “promoters want me to appear now, where’s  the paper at ?”

How we get down featuring Yasmin; This track makes you want to jump in                 your car with friends and lots of drinks and drive off to the beach to have a ball.  Yasmin’s humming through the song was not really necessary but she handles the hook well with L helping out.

Hey You featuring Pinky; “For all my Ladies, LG stay close to your girl, I told you before – I’m out to steal your gal….”          This track is brilliant.  No flaws at all.  No wonder it has been nominated for this year’s PAMA in the “Hip Hop   Song of        the year” category.  And if it doesn’t win, PAMA     would have lost the plot.

Yesterday; On this he opens up more on the loss of his mother, PTECH and KEFA.  “Explain why my brother was absent at your funeral….”  He tries to let those who are going through the loss.. to know that there’s hope and that they should never give up.

Stop hating; Dawoo on the beat, Lyrical G behind the MIC; A+.  He throws shots     at the critics, hataz and gives      love     to the ladies on this track.

Life featuring Ras Pato; “I’m talking about life – We got to preserve it.  Every man, woman and child – we deserve it…”  More material like this is needed to educate the youth.  And its good to have Lyrical G leading the way.

Art of War featuring Babaluku; “Rappers thinking they are BIG- But they are not ready to die…”  Straight up battle track.  The chemistry he has with Babaluku makes you wish for a reunion of the early Bataka Underground

Spit Fire; On this you get to “Meet G –Lyrical meet Cleaver”.  He stretches  his flow on this one, and falls short, production doesn’t help out either.

Narudi;  With a hook in Swahili, sleek punchlines, and a lot of Charisma, you will be left singing “LG is back”

Apart from “Stop Hating” and “Narudi” which were produced by Dawoo and Aydee, the album was produced by MNM for GK Productions which gives the album a cohesive sound.  And with  no major  slip ups, the album makes for good listening, so sit back and enjoy “LG’s Back”
