Peter Miles Motorola brand Ambassador
Peter Miles arguably Uganda’s most respected hard core dance hall artist has had quite a busy year 2007.Torn between running his Entebbe based road block records, recording his new 2008 project, promoting his records around East Africa and overseas, promoting local dancehall talent one could argue that peter is hefty busy and fatigued. However I recently hooked up with him at Capital radio for an Interview. As usual he is sharply casually dressed in designer Blue denims white trainers and silky tight fitting t-shirt. On this particular day he's rolling with Benon (Part of Benon and Vamposs) and long time co-host Crystal Fabulous. He talks about the year so far, his future plans and his recent engagements with Motorola.
Qn; Hey Peter what’s new? Tell me about your music today.
Miles; Music is actually a lot. It’s been a busier year; you know trying to expose things here and away from the continent. Basically trying to expose my music on the international scene. It has actually moved a notch higher. I've done some appearances as well, like back home, ummm Dar es Salam and Europe.
Qn: So what’s with your recent trip to Dar es Salam?
Miles; Well I was invited to be a part of a big fun anniversary and sports event for the Dar corporate personalities and their families’ altogether. It included a soccer match and a performance. Actually Dar was one of my first breakthroughs in East Africa after Nairobi and songs like Love, Combination are doing good down there.
Qn; You were recently contracted by Motorola to promote their latest W series phones. Are you their new face?
Miles; This was all about using celebrity endorsements for Motorola to initiate or rather endorse their latest series of the W series phones and they needed the right personalities to handle the brand so its basically handling the Brand and being their face in form of promotional shows and live activations, radio interviews, print in the Media, billboards and there's a compilation of a Moto beats CD with all the ambassadors from the three East African countries which is Jua Kali from Kenya and Banana Zoro from Tanzania and I (Peter Miles) from Uganda, so its basically putting the brand closer to the people of Uganda and all my fans.

Qn; How's the Motorola promotion gone so far?
Miles; It's been going good. It's been a success indeed. I've had appearances to meet fans, sign autographs, I’ve done shows. The first was in Club Rouge and then Silk Royale. It's called the Moto Live activation where I get to give out Phones to fans, Give out one of my Moto Beats cds, posters, performing and giving out all the Motorola Goodies and endorsing the W series in particular.
Qn; Is it safe to assume that Motorola has realized more sales from this campaign?
Miles; Yeah Definitely! Even when you look around everywhere you see the W220.I think its the one I’ve seen that has really gone out into the public, It's very much with everyone, there's the W375,W208 that are also on the Market. But I think the W220 has sold a lot more. It's actually a group of W series. There are about four types of phones.
Qn; Which particular types are you pushing out as we speak?
Miles; I push a different one every week. I’ve been rotating between the phones. I’ve pushed the 220, the 375 and I’ve pushed the 208.So it's basically rotating within the Brands of the W series.
Qn; Where can somebody access the W series brands as well as the Moto beat Compilation CD.
Miles; You can access them at all Cell 2 Cell outlets if anybody went and purchased a W series Motorola phone from any of the cell 2 cell outlets who are the authorized Motorola dealers, they could get to walk away the banging Moto beat CD that's a professionally mixed CD and a poster and download any of my songs on their W series phone.
Qn; How many tracks are on there?
Miles; It's got about fifteen tracks all professionally mixed up together.

Qn; Why do you think Motorola chose your personality to represent them in this campaign?
Miles; I think it something to do with who suits the brand best. Because it's a new age sleek brand that comes affordably to people that like style. Because it is relatively smaller and it's user friendly. It was to look at people who like a sleek lifestyle and who want the new age of communication. So its basically a brand that comes with people who like that kind of sleek and urban style that comes at an affordable price and it’s got features that relate to me as an artist because it's got an FM radio and its something that needs say like an artist who's got like banging urban music that would do for a sleek lifestyle. So that would suit best because its one of the things they were launching on the phone. Things like down loads of my songs, browsing the internet, radio, so they needed to associate with an artist who can fit the brand best and I think I do like urban new era music. I've branded myself as a new era urban artist. So I think the brand suits best with what I was doing. I think we link best.

Qn; So speaking of this campaign, does it remain in urban Kampala or you have tours coming?
Miles; Yes we have to do a Motorola East African grand show with all the three ambassadors from all the three East African countries (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania) that will be scheduled for a later date. But for now I am done with the Ugandan shows and await those out of Uganda.
Qn; So any new musical projects?
Miles: Yeah a lot more am already working on my 2008 project, there are songs like “world is Rough” that I’ve performed in Germany, songs like “Champion Lover”, there are songs like Destiny,Ensi eno I’ve got like a lot of new stuff to put out for the diasporas you know like music for export as well as home 'cause it's started to be appreciated here at home. The local album is also moving' on well, and there are a couple of local hits on the up coming album as well but am really concentrating on actually pushing the music out of Uganda onto the world market.
Qn; So besides your own music what CD have you been listening to?
Miles; As for now am listening to a compilation, but I listen a lot to Capleton. It's actually a mix CD it’s got Deville, Its got Richie Spice and a couple of others. It’s a variety CD
Qn: Any words for the fans?
Miles: To my fans I always say am always there for them as much as they've been there for me. They've moved with me a very long way. I always remember them. And I know they're really down and they've been following me and they've been really staunch right from the start 'cause it was very hard at the beginning to initiate the style, but I think now they should be happy at the moment that we finally conquered at least a big part of the dream. So they should keep hanging in there 'cause there's a lot i got in store for them.
“Big up unu self all ya and keep our dancehall fraternity burning…Keep di vibes juggling
