About Sami-K
Even though you haven't have seen him topping charts in Uganda or East Africa , Sami-K has made his noble contribution to this music industry. He is more on the underground and in the technical and artistic spheres of sound production in studios and his input his input has bettered many artists' work. On the whole, he is more known as a vocal trainer on the music scene but what you may not have known is that he has had a lot of solo projects and collaborations with artists. As soon as next year, he may be the gospel artist on everyone's lips.
So who really is Sami-K? His real name is Samuel Kiggundu; he was born on 9 th December, 1977 and spent most of his formative years with his grandparents, who were deeply involved in music: This could explain his early exposure to performing arts. His Grandpa, the late Yeko Mukasa had a group called ‘Mukasa's singing group' which was under the Uganda Association for Christian Music (UACM) and it was with this that a young Sami, who was about six then first got to test his vocal chords in melody.
From there forth, he joined a string of school choirs in every school he went to, right from Nakasero Primary School . He was later to form his own group called ‘Sanctuary' in 1994 after he become born again. He then joined the KPC music circles where he was part of the youth choir, which he later became a leader of in 1997. His good performance saw him joining the Worship Team and the Main Choir at KPC.
In 1999, he sang with First Love and did many performances with them and soon after joined the Watoto Children's Choir which he worked and traveled with for close to two years.
In 2001, he made up his mind to become a solo artist and has recorded a couple of tracks which include 'Praise him' featuring Mr. P and Angella, ‘Next Alright' featuring Vampos and 'Aint No Need' with Lyrical G.
Even tough he is a good singer; he is constantly doing vocal training to improve his skills and enhance his talent as and does these with artists like The Obsessions, Titi, Winnie Munyenga and a multitude of gospel artists.
And most recently, he has started a company to promote Gospel artists called ‘2 Tha-End Entertainment Ltd.' Through which he hopes to shares what he has learnt over the years with young talent; he has big plans for Ugandan Gospel music.
He is also very active at the new First Love Studio in Ntinda where he does ‘lots of things' ranging from production, background vocals, vocal training and a lot more.
That's Sami-K for you in brief, watch this space for updates.
