Sons of Symphony
By Julie Erusa
Let
mi begin by talking about the group. It consists of two members,
Crossova and Mperio (I will tell you more about each of these
later). These two met in 2001 at Makerere University. They began
with backyard rapping which they basically did for pleasure.
They are planning on releasing an album in the near future;
right now they are doing collabos and rhyming for pleasure.
Crossova
Most of you remember Crossova; this is the guy who battled Saint
CA, Kampala’s hottest female rapper (No offense I still don’t
know who beat the other).
Anyway, Crossova’s real name is Kafko Anthony. He studied
atJinja College where he was the Entertainment Prefect. At the
moment, he is a student in Makerere University studying Mass
Communication.
About his music background, he started with dancehall or reggae
in senior one around the age of fifteen and later in his senior
four, he started rapping. This was basically because hip-hop had
a good message and he could easily affiliate himself with rap.
It also helps him to relax.
Right now, Crossova is not doing studio recording and he is
doing it for the love, not for the money. He writes rhymes based
on life experiences.
He is inspired by Talib Kweli, Black Thought and Nas. Given a
chance, he could change people's perception towards hip-hop.
Some think that it is an imported culture and it is involved
with drugs and basically crime. Ten years from now he sees
himself as the baddest MC.
His advice to other hip-hop musicians is never give up and to
never change their style.
He would like to send his vote of thanks to the organizers of
the hip-hop night which takes place every Wednesday at Sabrina’s
pub because its a good innovation this develops the rappers
lyrically and keeps their minds working and open
This is what Crossova had to say to all of you;
Ma rhymes
are so hard disrespect
Nobody ma rhymes are so
bad
Penetrate your whole body
like
Liquor of a Friday you
can’t
Stand in ma way. I know
your
Next phrase so you all
gotta be
Far away…
Mperio
His
real name is Savio Kawoya. He studied at St. Lawrence and St.
Mary’s Kitende. He also happens to be a student at Makerere
University studying Mass Communication
He started listening to hip-hop when he was still a kid for
pleasure. His writing is based on spreading his cause,
(Imperialism as he called it) what you want too be, what you
want to do, what you want to do to an MC and life on a small
scale.
Musicians like Cannibus inspire him because of his attitude. He
also likes underground music. Given a chance he could change the
fan base, radio and media system. Ten years from now he sees
himself owning his own label.
His view on hip-hop night, he says it’s a nice innovation,
spreading the hip-hop culture and exposing the people.
This is what Mperio has to say to you all;
Get
chu thinking right coz
Damn am bugging steady
spitting
Slunging am at it again
this time
A bottle of Gin mad
Russians just
Yeh am cocktailing the
hit hip-hop
In this till I rest six

You all best believe it
analyze proceed
Coping ma s**t like a habit u can’t can’t kick |
