Still Above
Still Above is a gospel music group with a difference. . It’s made up of three guys who have a burning desire to change the face of gospel music in Uganda and the whole world at large. Joab, Justus and Brian are the guys in the crew and their love for music can be traced all the way back in secondary school. Joab & Brian used to do their thing as secular rappers at the school’s talent show i.e. Lubiri SS in the years 1997-1999. But in 2000 things changed God called them to serve in His temple! Joab went to Rubaga Miracle Center and Brian was taken to Kampala Pentecostal Church (KPC) Joab joined the Miracle Teens and started out as a rapper and vocalist, Brian joined the worship teem at KPC. They joined together again in 2002 and formed Still Above. Justus is a new member in the group and he comes Kansanga Miracle center. He actually originates from the Western region and so he sings a lot of Kinyakole, Kiswahili and Kinyarwanda. They mix R&B, raps and some African style characterized by Kiganda, Kinyankole, Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili languages. All they need is to see their new gospel flavor circulate into the whole world and rescue many souls from the devil’s kingdom. They also comment that since many things have changed in this world, a new class of gospel music has to be born out and overtake secular music. It has a new touch of gospel. They have an R&B single called “Everybody praise” released from AV1 studios and Steve Jean was the producer. It’s being played on most Christian radio stations in Kampala and in the western region. In their single release, they mixed vocals in Luganda and English, followed by an inspiration rap. The message in the song is directed to everyone, at least to take some time and give praise to the almighty father. “Just remember where God has pulled you from and all the miracles He has done for you, you’ll realize that He deserves all the praise. It’s quite encouraging that these guys have decided to take up gospel music as their career and we need to pray for them so that they make it to the top.
