Profile

XPOSURE is a brainchild of 5 students in their senior six vacations. The idea came up in April 2002 and the name XPOSURE was chosen of the many names which were suggested during the first meeting. We then decided to take on new members if the group was to prosper, which we did. As time went on, most of these new members kept leaving as others joined expecting big financially, this was a disappointment to them.

Talent, love for fun and ambition for celebrity status would best sum the drive for XPOSURE at its infant stage. There wasn't any big financial intention by the time. We were pleased by what we saw of XPOSURE for within the first four months of our existence, we managed to get the attention of the many and different secondary schools like Uganda Martyr's Secondary School, Ntinda View College among others.

As time went on, the challenges seemed more than the achievements, which forced us to sit and revise our prospects for the group, survival and success. On 8th Feb. 2003, we organized our first major show which featured our elders in the entertainment industry in the likes of The Obsessions and a whole lot of other local artistes and radio personalities. Prior to this, we had worked with quite a big number of local artistes, most especially the commonly known Firebase Crew hence getting fair marketing. This did not change a lot though we got compliments for the job well done.

We then set up for a serious tour in schools, which we did achieve. The schools where we performed include; Nakasongola Army S.S, Progressive Secondary School Bweyogerere, Uganda Martyr's Secondary School Namugongo, Ntinda View College, Seeta High School, St. Lawrence London College Campus to mention but a few. We tried getting shows in bars but we failed to work with the bar audiences because it was really hard to meet the demands of a drunk audience, which would have required us to do the dirty dance commonly known as the ”Kimansulo” which originally was not on the Group's aims and ambitions, hence opting out of bar performances.

With lessons learnt and experience gained, the idea of going corporate on low level came in. We began to go to big offices to get sponsorship and little was achieved through this. We got short term deals to perform on the promotion team of Mango “Live Like a Millionaire” throughout Uganda and of course starting with the launch that was held at Kampala Rugby Club ground. We also on some occasions worked with Tyson Waragi.

To us these performances were not satisfactory for we did not achieve the main goal, which was sponsorship, and besides, they were not corporate at all.

That made us switch to school shows again and we managed to stage more performances alongside Stingers, the former TCK dance group. We have also performed at higher institutions of learning and major public shows like the ANNUAL MR. & MISS NKUMBA 2003 & 2004, THE ANNUAL LUMBOX and the 2004 AFRO-STONE SHOW AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY , the Jamaican singers' show known as T.O.K held at Hotel Africana in 2004.

The latest and biggest corporate performance we boast of is the 2nd ANNUAL PEARL OF AFRICA MUSIC AWARDS which was held on 2nd October 2004, we were the official back-up dancers for all the performing artistes [save for Abdu Mulaasi who came with his dancers!!!] on that occasion. The fact that we had more dancers chosen from our group by the organizers, of all the many dance groups around town gives us the courage to believe that we have grown in quality and capacity

Currently XPOSURE is composed of four [4] committed members, all of whom are boys. To sum up the long and yet precise story, with our debut single “AFRIGAL” out and a whole lot of other songs all of which are in “Patois” [Jamaican] and English in stock, one would say that XPOSURE has stood the tests of time. Thus, as a dancehall quartet, we are set to challenge time and break through the odds to the top, only with a little guidance and support.

FACTS ABOUT THE SINGLE

Just like it has already been said in the brief profile above, the debut single just like the rest yet to be released is in “Patois” [Jamaican].

AFRIGAL talks about this pretty little African girl who grew up not wanting to mess around with men. Till when she one day found someone so cool and real to love but got crushed. In brief the whole song can be explained as below:

In Verse I: Arnon talks about how this little girl who kept herself for one guy whom she finally got and fell for that “she even eased herself to kill”…anyone who tried to come between. But when this thug got in her life he messed it up after first driving her so crazy with love- meaning his love was drama but not real.

In the Bridge: Josh describes more of the nice ways in which this guy treated the AFRIGAL till she lost control of her life. And that she always followed him wherever he went. When he says, “Hot hot till she call fi a cree”…there is a pun intended, meaning he did make love to her till she called for a break [or timeout].

In Verse II: Zef praises the AFRIGAL of how beautifully formed she is. He also talks of how her beauty has gotten other girls envious and cursing. Zef concludes his praises by talking of the fact that she makes all men want to form a line for her.

In Verse III [RAP]: Lot here adds more to his AFRIGAL saying she is the girl of his dream with whom they make a combination above the rest. He also talks of how many girls [one night stunt] try to follow wanting to seduce him.

Josh adds the concluding lines to this verse saying no matter what other people say he is attracted to AFRIGAL and the way she grooves so nothing shall separate them.

In theChorus: This point is the most repeated in the song yet still the most catching. Here XPOSURE as a person is swearing loyalty to AFRIGAL.

All in all the song is a piece of advice to our little girls not to jump around on men before learning them fully. With the above explanation you can now read the lyrics attached and for sure won't get troubles understanding them.
