Angella Katatumba the Ugandan Songtress By Jane Musoke-Nteyafas
First published: August 2, 2006
learnt singing and tuning of my voice from Whitney (Houston). I get the low and husky feel from Toni (Braxton), but there is also a lot of Deborah Cox in my sound," she once said. "I'm a power ballad singer. I know the market here is different, but that's who I am. I'm not trying to sound like anyone. I'm Angella Katatumba."
Although she is relatively new to the Ugandan music scene, she has already been referred to as "Uganda's best secret" as well as Uganda's soul sensation. She has taken Uganda by storm with her magical voice. The Kenyan-born, Ugandan R&B ballad songstress is the only daughter of the Honorary Consul of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Uganda, H.E Boney Katatumba and Gertrude Katatumba, who are the proprietors of AFK beauty Clinic at Grand Imperial Hotel as well as Hotel Diplomate in Muyenga, Uganda.

A day with Angella Katatumba by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256-782233273)
Broadly acknowledged for her Humanitarian and Entrepreneurship works, Angella Katatumba is an artist in a class of her own because she uses her music to tackle issues like wars, peace, love care and conserving the climate.
It’s partly for this reason that the British Council appointed her as the International Climate Change Icon in Uganda.
This is even why international Television Channels like CNN, Aljazeera and VOA (Voice Of America) approached her for several interviews concerning Uganda and this was because of her “For You Gulu” Awareness Project that helped transform the war-affected people of Northern Uganda.
She’s a Humanitarian, an artist, a song writer, a hotelier (managing Hotel Diplomat) in Muyenga and the Managing Director URED (Uganda Real Estates Developers).

British Council appointed her the climate change Icon in Uganda added to using her “let’s Go green” track as the theme song for the climate change project in the region.
Due to the success of Angella’s track, she was selected to represent the country in the 16th summit on climate change in Cancun, Mexico on a night that will feature high profile heads of states from different parts of the world.
The Diva will as well perform to the guests especially since her “Let’s Go green” track is the theme song for the whole campaign.
Angella traveled to Southern America last week although the campaign kicked off on the 29th and is to climax on the 10th of this respective month.

Angella Katatumba drags ACCU to court by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256 782233273)
Angella Katatumba, under her humanitarian project “Let’s go green” has dragged the Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) to the courts of Law for defamation.
This came after they used her “let’s go green” song in a radio advert without consulting her and for that, ACCU will have to pay 150m.
She dragged them to the commercial court maintaining that they never asked for her permission to use her song before the advert was aired out on various radio stations. She says this affected her image and market since her fans found it provocative.
The reigning Diva’s role model of the year also added that despite the daily calls she receives from high profile people to drop the case, she’s determined to see this matter to the end.“After hearing the advert, I was so furious that I immediately contacted my lawyers to get into this matter. I want sh 150m from ACCU for the damages caused. This will help in setting a trend that artists should be respected and not taken for granted. It would have been a lot easier and cheaper if they had contacted me earlier.” Angella concluded.”
