GNL in 30 million recording deal

It looks that the entertainment industry is finally growing and revolving for the better, now artists and getting managers, promoters, booking agents and record deals.

Like his name GNL Zamba states “Greatest of No Limits” has currently signed a 30 million recording deal with Platinum Records under the directorship of Shadrack. Platinum Records is known for producing great hip hop acts like the The Hip Hop Canvas in 2005 which had songs like “Mother Africa”, Brand New Day and the most recent Utake Anthem.

Shadrak: Director Platinum Records

Platinum Record is offering record deals to Urban and hip hop artists and GNL Zamba is the first artist it has signed up. This deal involves a full 10-track album, music videos and promotions.

Why GNL

Shadrack says “GNL is one of the original members of the Hip Hop Canvas who have fought on and definitely has the passion for what he is doing”

The sky is the limit for GNL keep tuned!!!

Wit elevates GNL’s hit Soda by Tha Puzzle

I wouldn’t blame many for referring to hip-hop artist GNL as a new “boy” on the block. Perhaps they haven’t been loyal Ugandan hip-hop fans over the years. And yes true indeed many have been asking the question? Have you seen the new video for the new guy GNL? Well many might not be aware of the fact that GNL has been on the scene for the past decade trying to do what many Ugandan hip-hop artists have been doing the past years. Trying to make hits that will go down well with the Ugandan public no matter their ethnicity.

GNL: Greatness of No Limits - By Olive Eyotaru Yemima

Hip Hop in Uganda has for a long time not been recognized locally by many Ugandans. It was only in the early 1990's that a few artists like the late Philly Bongole Lutaya (he rapped a verse in his song, Nakazama), Bataka Underground and Kado family struggled to represent the Hip Hop movement through their music. After a few years, it died slowly but the early 2000s saw it resurrect again and it is now competing favorably with the dominant dance hall and ragga music.

Besides music, this is what our musicians would have become Isaac Isejjombwe.

Starting today, we are going to be looking at what our musicians would have been if it hadn’t been music and we’ll be exhausting at least two musicians until we finalize with each and every one of them.

GNL

Many refer to him as the king of hip hop in Uganda, while others refer him to be the Luga flow maestro but he prefers himself as the face of hip hop in Uganda. GNL’s debut was way back in 2005 in mother Africa with the all hip hop artist. He took a musical break for like two year until 2008 when he made a comeback with his Soda Jinjale hit which saw him scoop the hip hop song for that same year and until now, he has not looked back. Some of the hits that have made GNL a force to reckon with in hip hop category include Soda, Luka, Ani yaliamanyi with the late Elly Wamala, mwana wababa with Percussion Discussion, Omusajja, Koyi Koyi among others. When asked what he would have been if it were not music, GNL said he would be a structural engineer or environmental scientist. About his income, GNL bags 1 million shillings on every concert he attends.

GNL to launch Koyi Koyi

GNL Zamba came to be known in the Hip-hop scene after the introduction of the Hip Hop Canvas. With his unique style of Luga flow rap he has captured the hearts of many and reminded millions of Ugandan that the Hip Hop is still going strong. GNL is set to launch his first album “Koyi Koyi; The Riddles of Life” on 21st August at Kyadondo Rugby Club, 22nd August at Colline Hotel Mukono and finally the family show at Imperial Resort Entebbe on the 23rd August 2009. The launch will feature artists like Blu 3, Bobi Wine, Dr Chameleone and Moses Radio and Weasle. The album features songs like Kikakane, Koyi Koyi, Mr Right ft Moses Radio & Weasle, Soda, Ani Yali Amanyi ft The Late Elly Wamala and many more.

Don’t Miss!!

Greatness of No Limit (GNL) by Isaac ssejjombwe.

By the look of things, the kidandali dominance in the Ugandan music industry is soon becoming history being replaced by hip hop which is fast rising through one guy known as GNL ZAMBA who has kept the flag up high with his unique style of expression through his hits that have relentlessly kept on climbing charts in the East African region. Music Uganda was able to catch up with the Luga flow maestro and below is what transpired in our dialogue.

GNL’s Nyo Nyo Nyo by Isaac Ssejjombwe.

With GNL as the hip hop messiah in Uganda, the style is steadily becoming the most popular among Ugandan artists.

Well, the hip hop maestro has released his recent single called “Nyo Nyo Nyo” which by the way is one of his best hits.

Related to his other songs, GNL also throws praises to himself in this song with his rhythmical capability and flowing lines.

However, GNL loses it when he decides to disrespect the fans especially those who detest him and hip hop as a style of music.
Forgive me for I have no exact words to translate these specific words in English but the Artist says in one of the verses that “Abatamatila hip hop ne GNL musinika Ebinyo”.

Half of the musicians I’ve made interviews with say that music is the only way to express one’s feelings but that was a negative method to get back at those who helped him up his game.

GNL, K’NAAN in duet! by Isaac Ssejjombwe.

He’s perhaps the leading Hip Hop artists in the country apparently and is also credited for hyping Hip Hop as a genre of music.

Succeeding were others have failed in a period of 6 to 8 years in the music industry, GNL Zamba has established himself to be one of the greatest.

The Kikankane artist has yet again proved to be a force to reckon with by teaming up with “Waving Flag” artist K’naan from Somalia in song called “Orchestra”.

This song promises to be one of the best going by the success of both artists in a way that K’naan’s Waving flag took the world by storm and had toped the list to become the official World Cup song in South Africa only being replaced by Shakira’s “Waka Waka” at the last moment.
With songs like Koyi,Koyi, Kikankane, Luka, Mr Right, Soda among others, GNL has gone ahead to top charts in the region.

Orchestra will be released next month as final touches are being added to make it one of those International songs from Africa.

GNL imprisoned by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256-782233273)

Self proclaimed Luga flow maestro Earnest Zamba alias GNL was last Tuesday taken to jinja road police station after he allegedly beat up a one Becky Mirembe over money.

Being a staunch GNL fan, Becky started calling him constantly to appreciate his music but as time went on, she as well started sending him money alongside other gifts.

She even traveled from Sweden to meet him in London during his European tour a few months back but after that, he started rejecting her calls after his girlfriend became cautious about their relationship.

While in Silk last Tuesday, Becky caused a scene when she attacked GNL together with his girlfriend claiming he owes her money worth 2million shillings and claiming she’s the sole reason behind his musical success. GNL, in the process of separating the two women who were on the verge of fist-fighting accidentally pushed Becky who fell down claiming he punched her thus opening up a violence case at the police station.

She also claims that he owes her money worth 2million shillings which she has been giving him since their relationship started. Talking to GNL on phone, he explained that Mirembe just wants to tarnish his name after he failed to give her audience and neglecting her calls.
“After rejecting her calls on realizing that my relationship with my wife was depreciating, she wanted to hit my fiancé with a beer bottle after she confronted her to leave me alone at silk.

Then on trying to separate them, she tripped and fell claiming I hit her. But I made my statement at the police station last Sunday and we are to settle the case outside court.” GNL said.

GNL reaps big from Warid by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256-782233273).

They say if you are to eat a frog, eat a fat and juice one and perhaps that’s the adage Hip hop maestro GNL applied when signing a contract with Warid Telecom Company. He’s to run their Radio and Television commercials as well as appearing on flyers and billboards.

The deal is said to have cost the Telecom Company 49 million shs according to GNL and it’s a year endorsement deal.

Besides cash, the “Kikankane” artist also got other packages, like phones, airtime among others. The telecom company after a long survey settled on the Luga flow artist because of his attachment to the youths who are the company’s major clientele.

In the running TV and Radio Advert, GNL is promoting the 3 rate Warid campaign calling on other networks.

GNL unveils album and artists b y 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256-782-233273)

Lugaflow maestro Earnest Zamba better known as GNL officially unveiled his second album; “Speaking Vernacular” at Club rouge on the 20th of December 2010.

The artist has been promoting the album throughout the country with his “Vernacular speaking country tour” in places like Adjumani, Arua, Soroti, Kabale and Masindi.
“This album leans towards a fresher different style but still stays relevant to my local audience.” He said.

This album comes a year after the launch of his first “Koi koi” album that saw the “Luka” artist becoming the first Hip hop artist to have a full house in a grand live concert in Kampala.

In his record label “Baboon Forest”, Gnl has also been nurturing artists like Mun G, Big Trill and Free Boy who are poised for greater heights in the future.
“It has been a great year seeing these artistes starting to get recognition for their hard work. They are the future”. Gnl said about them.

With refreshments on the house, the audience was as well treated to performances from the Baboon camp and tracks like “Wuuba, Message, Teli Aluleta, Kyilli Obvious, Ebintu and Sesetula” garnered cheers from the full house.

Slated to be launched early next year, Gnl’s album costs 5k and can be found in leading supermarkets and music distribution shops around town.

GNL remixes “Kagutema with  Juliana by 1544c Ssejjombwe. (+256 782233273)

Looks like re- inventing tracks is the way to go in the music industry nowadays. We heard GNL repeating Elly Wamala’s “Ani yali amanyi”, then several others like Bebe Cool, Jose Cham000,000, Iryn Namubiru, Ngoni, Bobi Wine, Juliana all re-did Philly Bongole’s songs.
Recently, Don Mc went in studio and outed “twalyako bye twalya” a song formerly done by fallen star Elly Wamala. Now info coming in is that Songstress Juliana has teamed up with Luga flow maestro GNL Zamba on “Kagutema”  which is perhaps one of the best classics.
First done by the Afrigo band in the early 1990’s, the traditional song has again been re-invented by GNL and Juliana at Swangz Avenue and Benon Mugumbya is the main producer of this respective track.

GNL is behind all the three verses while Juliana throws in the chorus.

Keko won the female artist; Coco Finger is the dancehall artist while the dancehall track went to AK47’s “champion”. Tonics was also one of the big winners of the day as he took home both the RnB artist and RnB song for his “swaggmeter” track.
